PICAXE 08M2+ Music Box

A simple circuit that can be used as the basis for a Christmas music box; by changing the tunes in the source code below it could be an anything music box!

The PICAXE 08M2+ outputs tunes and they are amplified by an LM386N-1 opamp, configured for 20 gain.

  • LM386N-1 opamp

Parts Required

  • PCB or build it on a breadboard
  • PICAXE 08M2+ (other 8 pin PICAXEs can be used by the number of tunes will need to be reduced)
  • LM386N-1 opamp
  • 2x 8 pin sockets
  • 1x 250uf electrolytic capacitor
  • 1x 0.05uf capacitor
  • 1x 10k resistor
  • 3x 2 pin screw terminals
  • 1x 10k trimmer pot
  • 1x 10 log pot (for volume)
  • 1x 8 ohm speaker
  • optional header for connecting to unused PICAXE in/outputs
